
This small town on the banks of the river Ganga is famous as the birth place of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the saint who pioneered
the devotional movement. In the late twelfth century, the king Lakshmansen (of the Sen dynasty) made Nabadwip the capital
of Bengal. The most famous temple here is that of Sonar Gouranga (Shrine containing
gold covered image of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu).
